About Picture Packer
--------------------
Picture Packer is a simple picture compression program. It is used for
compressing IFF/ILBM pictures. It can compress picture files to a quarter of
their original size in some cases. I wrote Picture Packer originally for my
own needs, but decided it would be a very good thing to release as shareware.
How to use Picture Packer
-------------------------
Picture Packer is really very simple to use. To load the program, simply
double click on the icon. The screen you are shown on loading gives you all
of the buttons required to use the program. Here is a list of what each
button does:
Load IFF Picture: Loads an IFF/ILBM picture into the buffer. Only
pre-ECS pictures are supported unfortunately, and the highest resolution is
Hires Laced. All pictures can be up to 1024x1024 pixels, regardless of the
resolution. I hope to make Picture Packer compatible with AGA pictures
and other formats such as TIFF and GIF in the future.
Save Packed Picture: Saves a compressed version of the picture
currently in the buffer. It must be loaded back into Picture Packer to be
of any use again.
Load Packed Picture: Loads a previously compressed picture into
the buffer.
Save IFF Picture: Saves the picture currently in the buffer as an IFF
picture.
Quit: Quits from the program, taking you back to Workbench.
NOTE: While Picture Packer is running, all multitasking is stopped until you
quit.
Picture Packer Hard Drive Installation
--------------------------------------
Picture Packer can be installed to your hard disk very easily by loading
Workbench as normal, then dragging the 'HDInstall' icon from the disk to the
directory on your hard disk that you want Picture Packer to be installed in.
Then double click on the icon. A new directory called Picture Packer
(imaginitive name!) will be created with the program in it.
The future
----------
Version 2 of Picture Packer will soon be completed, boasting many new
features, like an option to change the colour palette of the current
picture, the ability to view the current picture, and it will include a
picture Packer viewer.
There will be another version of Picture Packer released very soon. It
will be called Picture Packer 1.1, the only difference being that it will
run faster. I may write a new file requester for it as well.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you use Picture Packer a lot, then send me £5 shareware registration.
If you would like Picture Packer 2, then send me £10 if you live in the UK,
and send me £12 if you live outside the UK. Please make cheques payable to
R.S.Gooding.
Registered owners of Picture Packer v1.0 will recieve a free upgrade to
Picture Packer v1.1
Picture Packer v1.0 is © 1994 R.S.Gooding, but is freely distibutable
as long as you do not change it or sell it for more than the cost of a
disk and postage and packing.
